Summary
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare and fatal disease with a 3-5 years survival. It remains incompletely understood despite intense research and the arrival of new drugs with unproven efficacy in limiting mortality and are associated with severe side effects. Novel therapeutic targets are still required in IPF. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of selenium as a potent antioxidant, on the oxidative stress and clinical outcome of IPF patients and to assess selenium efficacy and tolerability in this patient population.
