Summary
Brachial plexus block (BPB) is a well-accepted technique to provide anesthesia and analgesia for upper limb orthopedic surgeries. Various adjuvants such as opioids3 , clonidine4, neostigmine, dexamethasone5 , midazolam 6 were added to local anesthetics in brachial plexus block to achieve quick, dense and prolonged block Ondansetron exhibits local anaesthetic properties 10. Ondansetron has demonstrated binding at the opioid m receptors in humans and exhibits agonist activity 11 Magnesium is a physiological calcium channel blocker and noncompetitive antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors 14. It has been used with a local anesthetic solution in different regional anesthesia techniques to decrease the onset time of block and to increase the quality and duration of anesthesia The aim of this study is to compare the effects of adding either ondansetron or magnesium sulphate as adjuvants to ultrasound guided infraclavicular brachial plexus block on postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing hand and forearm surgeries.
